Copyright laws can be a tricky when you are looking for images to use in class or for research. When students are using the Internet to search for images, it gets even trickier. Google images is great for finding specific images, BUT you are opening yourself up to potential copyright infringement. Google at it’s heart is a search engine, showing you images from external websites. Even if you are trying to adhere to citation rules, many students make the mistake of citing Google-Images when they use images. This is the equivalent of citing your local library when you use one of their books for research.

Pics4Learning is a great resource when searching for images to use in class or for projects. According to the website: “Pics4Learning is a safe, free image library for education. Teachers and students can use the copyright-friendly photos and images for classrooms, multimedia projects, web sites, videos, portfolios, or any other project in an educational setting.”

These images are also organized and categorized for easy searching by teachers and students. Check them out at http://pics.tech4learning.com/
